As you probably know by now, my name is Clare.
My life changed after my Erasmus semester in Budapest where I got a taste of living abroad. I made new friends, discovered a completely new city and navigated life with only two words of Hungarian: 'Szia: (hello) and 'köszönöm' (thank you). I loved every second of it, homesickness and all.
My Erasmus semester, coupled with a big career rejection meant that my life plans were turned on their head. Instead of pursuing a career as a barrister in London, I decided to take a gap year and found myself surrounded by sun, sand and sea in Spain on a quest to learn Spanish. I moved to Alicante where I taught English for one year. Although I loved teaching, I knew that it wasn't what I wanted to do forever.
During my year in Spain I applied and was accepted to study in Paris but financial restraints (thanks Brexit) meant that I had to defer my place for a year and search for scholarships. I decided to fill my time by moving to Toulouse, a city in the south of France to improve my spoken French and sort out any admin stuff I would need for the following year (if you know French administration, you know.)
I am now studying my dream master's program in Paris.
Aside from everything that is living abroad, I fill my spare time with listening and playing music, writing, seeing my friends and wondering if I'll ever understand how to do long division or learn to drive. All normal things for a girl in her 20s, I think (I hope).
